Where were you born?
London.
Where do you live?
In Crouch End, north
London. Hardly anyone’s ever heard of it!
Which is your favourite area in London?
That’s a hard question
because I love different areas for different things – shopping in Portobello,
clubbing in Soho, gigs in Camden, long walks on Hampstead Heath and Sunday
brunches at my favourite local café. I love most of the city.
What do you like best about style in London? How does
it differ from other cities?
I love that trends in
London filter up from the street as well as down from the catwalk. I don’t
think you get that as much in other cities.
Is there anyone in London whose style particularly
inspires you?
I like looking at what the
other press and stylists are wearing at London Fashion Week. I know she isn’t
British, but I think Kate Lanphear is always impeccably dressed. I definitely
style-stalk her when she’s here.
Which shows are you most looking forward to this season? Alexander McQueen’s McQ and Moschino Cheap and Chic – two new additions to the schedule.
Which is your favourite restaurant during Fashion Week? Unfortunately I don’t really have time to eat out during Fashion Week! Last season I’m pretty sure I survived on Pret A Manger salads and sandwiches consumed en route.
Which is your favourite show space?
Burberry Prorsum’s venues
are always amazing. They need to be, with those finales.
Do you have any advice for designers showing at London
Fashion Week for the first time?
Make sure your first
collection is completely true to who you are and do something memorable with the
show if the budget allows it.
Which is the most memorable fashion show you have ever
attended?
Burberry’s autumn/winter
2011 show was fantastic, as was Christopher Kane’s. I remember Bernard
Chandran’s show from the previous season quite well too because of the music.
Mr Hudson DJ’d and when Nero’s Innocence dropped, so did one of the models. I
also have to mention to Beyoncé’s House of Deréon show, which I walked in last
season. The atmosphere was beyond amazing and I’m glad I was a part of it.
Which are your favourite brands?
Rick Owens, Balmain,
Alexander Wang, Zadig & Voltaire and a new London designer called Tarang
Bharti. I shot with him just as he was completing his graduate collection and
we’ve stayed in contact ever since. I love his clothes. I also have a new-found
love for boots by Sergio Rossi.
Which is your favourite department store?
Selfridges. It has
everything and the edited Topshop and H&M concessions are very useful for
speedy shopping.
And your favourite online retailer?
I don’t tend to shop
online for fear of things not fitting, but when shooting for ASOS I realised
they’ve got some amazing pieces and it’s all so reasonably priced.
Which is your favourite city for shopping?
I feel I haven’t travelled
quite enough yet to make an outright decision, but I got some amazing things in
Berlin just before Christmas. I reckon I’d love the shops in Stockholm, but
I've never been!
What are your tips for surviving Fashion Week?
Planning – trying to fit 13
castings a day around attending shows as press is pretty difficult. That said,
I always try and make time to grab coffee and catch up with friends at Somerset
House; it keeps me sane during the madness. And last but by no means least, when
in heels, ALWAYS CARRY FLATS.
