Boucheron’s antique butterfly beauty

Boucheron brooch
© Christies Images Ltd. 2011

The entire jewel collection of the late Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor was auctioned at Christie’s in New York earlier this month. Boucheron’s butterfly brooch, a sparkling artefact and one of our favourites, brightens up any collection even after 100 years. Created in 1900, the brooch is encrusted with blushing rubies and deep green emeralds on its delicate, lustrous wings. The main body is a work of art, made of stunning opal, while a large topaz jewel forms the central highlight. The brooch’s swirls of gold wiring enhance every intricate detail and promise that its owner will be in the spotlight every time it is worn.
